BACKGROUND
House Pointing and Repointing Services in Manchester, Stockport, Bolton and North-West England. Brick & Stone Repair and Renovation Specialists.

As a Pointing Specialist, it's our job to ensure the same type of mortar the masonry units are bedded on, goes back into the joint. We use only the highest quality colour co-ordinated pitsands, with special care and attention paid to details such as correct balance in clay-content, appropriately blended and graded aggregates and specifically selected binders historically associated with use on a given type of masonry, be it a simple cement base or one of the many variants of Lime.

Prior to any repointing works, we interrogate the mortar bedding compound to determine the characteristics and chemical composition. This approach is an absolute must in certain cases where for instance, the use of a 'northern fly-ash mixture' (black-ash) has been used in the bedding mortar.

Black-ash mortar is a fine example of a situation which necessitates the addition of certain 'pozzolanic' additives in order to correlate physical and chemical properties with the prexisting mortar beds. 'Marrying up' with the masonry bedding mortar ensures continuity in critical properties such as material PH values and physical characteristics in rates of expansion, contraction and osmotic permeabillity.
